Artists retreat. Nine painters in two well appointed cabins for a few days had all the inspiring scenery and convenience we had hoped for. Stopped in the excellent Nature Center and were given photo opportunities. Hiked the ridge to get mountain view. We had breakfasts and lunches at the cabins and enjoyed dining at Taris in town and at the park lodge. There is no end to the picturesque spots we could find to set up for plein air practice.

This is a really beautiful park in the Berkeley Springs area, just a short drive from downtown Berkeley Springs. I haven't stayed in their cabins (yet) but it's on my bucket list which means I'll be updating my review at some point. When I drove through the park, I stopped by the main house and the staff were very friendly and answered all my questions. Their cabin prices seem pretty reasonable and I love the fact that there's so much to do in this park. Also, downtown Berkeley Springs is just so charming and it's around the corner.

This is a nice place to visit for a couple of nights. The park is ideal for families with children. The prices are reasonable and there are lots for families to do who like to be outdoors. There are different cabins to choose from, modern to rustic, or you can stay in one of the 49 rooms in the lodge. We stayed in the lodge. The first night was in Room 49 on the ground floor over looking the car park. The room is very, very small with a double bed you can only enter from one side as it is against the wall. I think it was there version of an ADA room as there were grab bars in the bath tub and an easy to open door handle, however the hook on the bath tub was too high and would be out of reach for a person in a wheelchair. The whole room was really too small for a wheelchair. There was a small flat screen TV, a small table and two chairs that served no purpose The second night we were in Room 12 on the second floor over looking the golf course. This was small too but a lot better than Room 49. It had a double and a single bed. The flat screen TV was a reasonable size, a small table and two chairs that served no purpose. All the rooms and the lodge in general is quite Spartan. In the lodge lounge there were some comfortable chairs and leather sofa. On the table there were different games and jigsaw puzzles. The free morning coffee in the lounge was surprisingly good. The dining room had sufficient friendly staff. The price for the dinner buffet was reasonable, the food was OK. The roasted potato were just sitting in grease, there was no need for this. I liked the stuffed chicken. We had a movie to go to so was upset on a Saturday night at 7:30 pm all the wait staff disappeared for 5 minutes while the restaurant manager held a meeting in the restaurant and was handing out envelopes to wait and kitchen staff, and thanking them for something. Surely this could have been done before or after service, not during. The breakfast buffet was standard fare but alas no sausage gravy for the biscuits, and no grits. Again the potatoes were sitting in grease. All the staff in housekeeping, restaurant and front desk were very friendly, cheerful and helpful. Cacapon Lodge has tremendous potential but it needs some basic upgrades. Two pillows per person, not one. Get rid of the dreadful bed covers that are not washed after every guest stay. Put some local art or photographs of beautiful West Virginia on the bare wood walls. Replace the tired and dirty looking carpet in rooms and hallway with real wood or even wood laminate floor. Make room 49 a single room and charge a single rate. I look forward to visiting again, but next time in a cabin.

I really clean state park with lots to do. They have a swimming area, hiking trails, rocking chairs and really nice cabins to stay in. Lots of scenery and quiet!

Went here for a "daycation" with my significant other the other day. The water was a bit cold but the atmosphere was perfect. This is a great place to relax under an umbrella, take a dip in the water, practice diving into the deep section of the water, or to build a sand castle. The price was right ($3) and there were plenty of lifeguards on duty. This is also a great place for families.

The service was poor with what we call "drive bys" where the waitress would grab our glasses to refill our drinks while walking by without addressing us. Watched a supervised child use her hands to get lettuce at the salad bar. Buffet was mediocre. Will not be back.

I've been here a bunch of times, mostly to fish, a couple of times to hike. There is a lot to do here, and it's such a nice park. There is a golf course, swimming beach (seasonal), two lakes, horseback riding, shooting range, playgrounds, picnic areas and tons of hiking. You can even get a fishing license at the resort. Make sure you get a trout stamp if you're going to fish in the lower lake. Get a map and a compass if you're going for a hike, and bring some water. There is always something to do there.

I came here for a convention and the park was really nice. The rooms are in need are major updating. It's very 1982 decor in the rooms. But it was a clean room and bed was comfortable. The wi-fi kinda sucked. Barley get any reception and then sometimes it was not working at all. The Restaurant had some pretty good food. The wait staff is friendly. The resort is building an expansion and from the pictures it looks really nice and swanky. A big plus to this state park is that you do not have to pay a fee to enter. I've been to some parks and you have to pay to get in.

We can't rate the whole park, but the guided trail horseback riding was a ton of fun. The guide was very patient and thorough. The trail was very scenic with lots of deer running and laying around. The horses were also very well trained and gentle. Great for beginners!

Stayed here for a couple of nights and really enjoyed it. The lodge is very simple and hasn't been updated for a while. But the rooms and sheets are clean and comfortable. They do have newish flat panel tvs but lack HD. The bathrooms were again clean but needed an upgrade. The grounds were a nice getaway from everything. Stayed here midweek and all was quiet except for the beach on the lake. Although we didn't have time, we heard the hiking trails were nice. The golf course is the main reason for this review. It was excellent. Well maintained, had a great variety of holes. It's also cheap! Midweek it was $30 for 18 holes without a cart (and it's very walkable). Small greens which made it tough to score well since you rarely have a flat lie out there. I could see myself playing this course for a whole week and not get bored. The service out there was also second to none. It's like they took all the friendliest staffers I have come across, made them redo courtesy training, then put them out there. I received fresh, icy cold water from a gentleman on a golf cart. I was also given a ride from the 18th green all the way to my car on a hot afternoon. I tried tipping both of them but they refused. One even said, "Being outside is tip enough for me." He then drove off with a smile. How great is that! Only 1.5 hours away from DC, so hopefully I'll be back soon.

This review is based on the swimming area at Cacapon Park. This is a really nice and clean lake to enjoy a swim. Some points... 1. The admission was $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. 2. Coolers are allowed, but no alcohol or bottles. 3. Lifeguards are on duty. 4. Showers and changing areas are available. 5. Hours are 10AM to 6PM. 6. Beach snack bar provides sandwiches, pizza, ice-cream and beverages. 7. Paddle Boats are available for rental.

Came here for a banquet function for about 200 people. All things considered, food and service exceeded expectations. Main course was stuffed chicken (moist, not dry) and roast beef in juices, more like a pot roast but not quite. Also, roasted red potatoes and green beans rounded out the main course. Tossed salad, excellent dinner rolls, and desserts. There is a restaurant too that looks like it's worth a try. Expect to pay $20 for entree, but that's not bad considering that includes Maryland Crab Cakes, or "steak and cake" (steak and one crab cake).

Took a well deserved break and rode my harley over to this park with a couple of my buddies yesterday (8/11/2012). Had a nice time. We rode around the park and stopped at the paddleboat picnic area and lodge. This park had quite a few visitors throwing small family related events. It was very clean and well maintained. They have a large playground for the kiddies, covered picnic pavilions's, and enclosed pavilions with fireplaces. We rode up to the Lodge but, did not go in...the parking lot was full! I understand the golfing there is exceptional...course designed by Robert Trent Jones. This park had several private cabins on the grounds that could be rented nightly/weekly. Although our visit was rather short, I would highly recommend this to a family (or couple) eager to get away from the "rat race" and enjoy some quality "back to nature" time. I'll be back.

Room: We spent two nights in the lodge. Great place to stay. Nice facilities - simple and not updated (circa 1980s), but clean and comfortable. I was surprised that the room had a brand new Samsung 16" flatscreen with basic cable. Can't wait to come back and stay in a cabin. Restaurant: Not very good, but the prices are reasonable enough. Hiking: Great loop trail. The scenery is spectacular. Really well maintained and no litter anywhere. Saw a turtle on the trail and some beautiful wildflowers. Other: Didn't have a chance to try clay shooting, golf, or horseback riding, but all looked great.

This is one of my top weekend get aways. Berkeley Springs West Virginia. Almost heaven West Virginia. It is just a short drive from Baltimore on Route 70. The town is very small but has a lot to offer. There are spas and restaurants to please everyone. If you are looking for big chains of anything you wont find it here. The resort has a golf course and a lodge. We always prefer to stay in a cabin because it is a little more private and there is a kitchen. You can book a small cabin or a larger four bedroom which we did. It was perfect for a girls get away. There was a fire place and they supplied the wood right outside your door. The kitchen had everything we needed and there is a grocery store near by. Each day we had a spa appointment. We got facials, pedicures, mud treatments, etc. Always in a tranquil setting. Our first visit was to the state park. It has the best massage and is very reasonably priced. Hint.. book ahead as they are quite popular during the year because of their price. Go to their web site for all the info you need.. There is a male side and a female side and you can soak alone or with your friends if you want before the massage. If not you can soak in a private tub. If you are a couple you can have a 30 minute soak in the other building that is for couples....being male and female together. I have always had the best relaxing time here. The attendants are great and are licensed. They work very hard and it was a pleasure to tip them. They are very sensitive to your needs. While at the resort there are many trails that you can hike. If the weather is nice we always try out a few. There is a swimming hole too for the summer. It is such a great place for families that they book up quickly. But they let you reserve at least a year in advance. So if you want a relaxing weekend head south. In October they have their apple butter festival with a parade and a festival. That is always fun. But any weekend can be stress free in Berkeley Springs.

I am going to give Cacapon Resort State Park a 5 because this state park has got it all going on! Cacapon (pronounced ka-KAY-pon), located in West Virginia's eastern panhandle, has an 18 hole golf course, a man-made lake with a beach and paddle boats, plenty of hiking trails, a big stable full of gentle horses to ride, and check it out a clay shooting range which is really tremendous fun. Cacapon has a varity of lodging options, including a full-service lodge, cabins and bungalows, in addition to campsites. We stayed in one of the "modern" cabins (has cable) as opposed to one of the "standard" cabins (no cable) and it was perfect. 4 bedrooms, a decent kitchen, large bathroom, washer/dryer, huge fireplace, and a big, big living room, outside a grill and a picnic table. And it was cheap! Something like $100 bucks a night IN SEASON! Grocery store not too far away, and plenty, but plenty to keep you and kids of all ages happy and well-entertained. We loved it so much last summer, we're going back again this summer. It is a year-round resort though, and Fall is probably pretty spectacular there, too.
